Autumn prunes the leaves, the entrepreneur prunes the calendar

10/09/2026

When you step outside in September, nature's message is clear: it is time to slow down, retreat, and prune away the excess. Trees shed their leaves to conserve energy for the winter. Nature is preparing for rest, not a new growth spurt.

In the daily life of an entrepreneur, the logic is often quite the opposite. As autumn arrives, new campaigns are launched, meetings for the rest of the year are locked in, and people try to catch up with annual goals in the midst of the gathering darkness. We push forward at full capacity right when our biology is asking us to slow down.

This conflict between nature's rhythm and the entrepreneur's routine often creates an internal friction, which feels like an inexplicable sluggishness and fatigue.

Harvest season – what are you leaving in the ground?

In agriculture, autumn is harvest time. It means doing two things: gathering what is ripe, and leaving the fields in peace for the winter.

As an entrepreneur, you can apply the same wisdom. Autumn is the perfect moment to pause and ask: What harvest am I currently reaping? And what should I finally have the heart to let go of?

Not every idea, project, or client relationship is meant to carry over through the winter, nor should they. Even a tree doesn't try to hold onto its leaves in the frost. Yet, entrepreneurs often try to carry every little thing with them, draining their limited resources before the first snow. Pruning is not giving up—it is essential so that new growth can emerge next spring.

Counseling provides a space to strip down to the essentials

When daily life turns into mere performance in the autumn darkness, pruning and clarifying your own thoughts becomes difficult to do alone. Sitting at your desk, every single task seems equally important and urgent.

Short-term therapy or counseling is like a brushcutter for an entrepreneur's autumn. It offers a neutral, outside space where you can lay out everything that is cluttering your calendar and your mind. Together we can look at which things in your business and daily life truly fuel your well-being and which ones are just draining your energy for nothing.

When you strip away what is non-essential from your mind, what remains is the clarity and peace to face the winter months.

Pause for a moment before winter. Get in touch, and let's prune the autumn workload to make it lighter together.
